DHEA Sulfate Test

DHEA-Sulfate, often called DHEA-S, is a type of hormone that comes from the adrenal glands, which are small glands located on top of each kidney. This hormone is important because it helps doctors figure out why some women have more body or facial hair than usual or why they might start showing male features. Doctors use this test to help them understand problems related to early puberty in some kids and to check for growths on the adrenal glands. Sometimes, women who have a condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) might have high levels of DHEA-S but normal levels of other similar hormones.
